Questions, before you commit

You don't hand AI the decision. You use it in the calm beforehand — as a coach, drafter and devil's advocate — to build a Playbook you have checked yourself. Every prompt that touches a live incident carries a standard preamble: refer to people by role only, don't invent details, and flag anything legal or safeguarding for the right specialist. Human Judgment Checks sit at Session 2 (your pledge), Session 5 (before you rely on your decision tree) and Session 9 (before any public response).

The ones your school is actually exposed to. Session 1 has you name your own risk surface, and every later piece of the Playbook is built for that shape. A worked example — Riverbend High, a UK secondary handling a fast-moving Year 11 social-media incident — runs through all ten sessions so you can see each piece applied to one specific incident.

It is built for schools — governors, the trust, the DSL, parent WhatsApp groups, safeguarding and legal sign-off — and you finish with your own School Crisis Playbook rather than a set of notes: first-hour sequence, stakeholder pyramid, decision tree, comms templates, holding statement and review routine, in your words, ready to print.

The free tier of ChatGPT or Claude is enough. The course is copy-paste: you copy the prompt, run it in your preferred tool, and paste the useful parts back into your Playbook.
